Fox Creek Health Care Centre received high praise from the Health Facilities Review Committee earlier this year, after a routine visit. Members were impressed by significant positive changes made and new initiatives implemented since their last visit in May 2002.
The Health Facilities Review Committee (HFRC) monitors the quality of care, treatment and standards of accommodation provided to patients and residents in health care facilities. The Committee also receives and investigates complaints that cannot be resolved at the facility.
"When the HFRC visits, there is no advance warning," explained Tracy Brown, Director of Health Services, Valleyview and Fox Creek. "When they arrive, what they see and experience is normal day-to-day operations. The fact they saw improvements since their last visit in May 2002 and they didn't have any recommendations says a lot about our team."
In a letter to the Peace Country Health Board Chair, Marvin Moore, the HFRC Acting Chair, Glenna M. Bell noted the positive attitude of staff and their commitment to providing excellent patient care.
The committee was also impressed by changes and improvements including the conversion of one area into an office space for mental health, speech-language pathology and diabetes education. They acknowledged good management of infection control, maintenance and housekeeping, safety and security and dietary and they were happy to see a thorough process for medication administration and administration. In the HFRC Summary of Findings, the committee commented on new equipment, such as the centrifuge for the laboratory and IV pump that have been made possible by the generous contributions of the Friends of Fox Creek Hospital Society and the fundraising efforts undertaken by the Ladies Auxiliary.
"Everyone should be proud of how far we have come in just a few years," said Ms. Brown. "It took everyone at the facility and others from across the region to make improvements. The progress made has been about collaboration, with an interdisciplinary and interdepartmental approach."
In celebration of Rural Health Week, we want to commend the staff, physicians, Ladies Auxiliary, the Friends of Fox Creek Hospital Society and numerous donors for working together to set an strong example of the successes and innovation that come from working together to deliver the best in health care across our region.
